Kathleen MacQueen will present a talk at the School of Visual Arts, as part of their 2013-2014 lecture series, on Wednesday, October 23, 2013. She will speak on the limitations of voice in expressing collective and historical trauma in the public sphere, taking as a point of departure Jacques Derrida’s The Politics of Friendship to reflect on a politics of intimacy.

Presenting contemporary artists from Latin America, Spain, Iceland, Belarus, Estonia, Armenia, Lebanon, and the US, she will consider their art as acts of defiance within the limitations of language and the transgression of speech into and out of silence. The lecture is free and open to the public, starts at 7pm, and takes place at 136 West 21st Street, Room 418F, New York, NY 10011.
